Did you know that those itty bitty stickers on all the fruits and veggies in the produce section can inform you if it’s genetically modified or not?
It is known as a PLU code: price look-up number.
If you’re always shopping at the farmer’s market, you’ll never see them.
However, if you regularly shop at the grocery store or run in only when needing a last minute item, it’s a good idea to keep an eye on the numbers.
Especially if you can’t afford organic and consume conventional produce.
Because nothing is MORE frightening than purchasing GMO.
Let’s move on to the details, shall we
A five digit code, always starting with 9 applies to organic produce.
A four digit code, usually starting with 4 applies to conventional produce that has been grown with chemical assistance.
And a five digit code starting with 8 applies to GMO items.
Which is the one I strongly encourage you to stay away from.
So next time you’re grocery shopping, make it a habit to look at that little sticker on the apple or zucchini.
If you see it starting with an 8, put it down and keep moving.
Your body will thank you
Love,
Z

Wow interesting.. what is GMO?
I wish i could go to fresh markets.. never get the chance.. They are always at times that i cant make it to =(
GMO stands for genetically modified organisms. In other words, it’s not real food. For example, a genetically engineered tomato is not a real tomato. The seed has been modified to grow the perfect tomato, with the perfect shade of red, perfect size, perfectly round and to sit in the produce section for weeks and weeks without rotting. It wreaks havoc in your body, messing with your DNA. FDA claims its perfectly safe. But it’s not. It can severely damage your health.
This is so good to know, hopefully I can remember it! Thanks
Thank you so much for sharing this info!! Love your blog!
